Poseidon was one of the Twelve Olympianns in ancient Greek religion and mythology, god of the sea, storms, earthquakes and horses. In pre-Olympiann Bronze Age Greece, he was venerated as a chief deity at Pylos and Thebes. His Roman equivalent is Neptune.
